About Dr. Kyler Elwell
Dr. Kyler Elwell-Silver is a board-certified physician passionate about medicine and deeply committed to patient care. After years of practicing conventional medicine in a successful career as an obstetrician-gynecologist, Dr. Elwell reached a point where she felt the need to explore a different approach and decided to transition to functional medicine. The increasing number of inquiries about functional medicine and the desire to provide comprehensive care beyond the limitations of 15-minute appointments prompted her to do some soul-searching and make a change.
Dr. Elwell found that patients wanted to understand the reasons behind their illnesses and desired solutions beyond symptom management. They sought answers to the “why” behind their health issues and longed for sustainable solutions. Inspired by this desire for comprehensive care, she embarked on a new path in functional medicine, eager to provide patients with the in-depth understanding and personalized treatment plans they desired.
Dr. Elwell completed her undergraduate and master’s degrees at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, before pursuing her medical degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. She then completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at UT Southwestern, solidifying her foundation in women’s health. Dr. Elwell most recently became board certified in obesity medicine, further enhancing her ability to address the complex relationship between hormones, metabolism, and overall health.
Beyond her medical expertise, Dr. Elwell’s genuine care for her patients sets her apart. She values building strong relationships and being a trusted partner in her patients’ healthcare journeys. Patient care played a significant role in Dr. Elwell’s decision to focus on functional medicine. She realized that her favorite part of being a physician was the deep connections she formed with her patients. Recognizing the need for a more personalized and in-depth approach to patient care, she decided to delve into the field.
About Nurse Practitioner Elise Clark, FNP-C
Elise Clark says that her love of science in school and growing up as a nurse’s child influenced her to pursue a career in nursing from a young age. She says her mother, a PACU nurse, embodies all of the qualities of the quintessential nurse: compassionate, nurturing, intelligent, kind, and able to think on her feet. And just like her mom, Elise is a people person and loves making people feel good. Elise says, “I am extremely fortunate to work in a practice that values my strengths as a nurse practitioner and allows me the autonomy and trust to make the best decisions for my patients every day.”
Elise’s early training included critical care, surgical care, and women’s health. During her time with an OB/GYN clinic in Austin, her interest in hormones began to pique. She saw firsthand that she could help people feel much better and safely enhance their lives with hormones.
Elise went on to practice Family Medicine which helped her become a well-rounded practitioner. Then, still passionate about hormones, she worked in Endocrinology for a few years. During this time, Elise realized the traditional medical model made it challenging to focus on patients holistically, incorporating nutrition, disease prevention, and education into her practice. This desire for change led her to an introduction to Dr. Leigh Ann Scott and her functional medicine practice, where she has worked since October 2017.
Elise graduated with honors from both her undergraduate program and her master’s program and is board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. In addition, she is also certified in Advanced Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy by WorldLink Medical.
About Physician Assistant Kam Neal, PA-C
Physician Assistant Kam Neal has loved medicine her entire life. She grew up in Colorado, and as a child, she remembers being fascinated with investigating how things worked. Throughout her career as a physician assistant, Kam has enjoyed working in several specialties within the medical field. She has worked in family medicine, cardiology, urgent care, and as a clinical assistant professor, where she learned she loved to teach.
In the traditional medical model, Kam felt frustrated working in a high-volume practice with barely enough time to refill medications and not seeing her patients feel any better. In addition, her experience with hormone imbalances after having children and being told “everything is normal” fueled those feelings, leading her to functional medicine and an optimal wellness model.
Kam’s desire to treat the whole patient and not just the symptoms, along with her passion for teaching, is evident. She loves working with each patient to find the root cause of their illness while teaching them about their health, so they feel informed and empowered.
Kam attended Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma, where she received a bachelor of science in biology. Following that, she earned a master’s degree in health services from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. She is a certified Physician Assistant and licensed by the Texas Medical Board.
