Pellet Therapy: A Simple, Convenient Way to Improve Your Quality of Life!
We are excited and proud to offer Bioidentical Hormone Pellet Therapy at the office of Forum Health Las Colinas.
Have you been considering Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy? Our providers already offer all sorts of methods of hormone delivery, and we wanted to add pellet therapy to those of you who may be interested in going this route.
Pellets are a fantastic alternative for both women and men who prefer them since we insert them every three months. That’s it! No creams, no shots, no patches! Women may still need to take progesterone, but all other hormones are included in the pellet. That means you get all the benefits of hormone replacement with none of the inconvenience!
Our Nurse Practitioner Debra Bluestein is a specialist in Bioidentical Pellet Therapy. Using our functional medicine approach, they will ensure your bioidentical hormone pellets are tailored to your individual needs. Our goal is for you to achieve optimal health and a lifetime of wellness.

How Does Pellet Therapy Work?
As with all our services, we incorporate laboratory testing, provider consultation, comprehensive health assessment, medically proven supplements, and professionally compounded Bioidentical Hormones specifically tailored for your individual needs.
In this case, the hormones are produced in pellet form. And, of course, there’s no one-size-fits-all dosage for pellets. Each one is compounded specifically for you based on your lab results and symptoms.
Since a pellet is only about the size of a tic-tac, we insert it in your hip/buttocks area under a local anesthetic. This procedure only takes about 20-30 minutes, and then you’re ready to go!
You may feel some slight tenderness after the anesthetic wears off, but this should last for a few days at most. However, we recommend no strenuous exercise for two days for women and seven days for men, to avoid dislodging the pellet.
Benefits of Hormone Pellets
One of the biggest benefits of hormone pellets is that we only insert them every three months. Once inserted, they dissolve naturally over a period of time, and then you simply come in and get a new pellet inserted which takes about 30 minutes.
Another advantage is that pellets are absorbed directly by your tissues, so they don’t have to travel through your digestive system for processing. That means that once we insert the pellet, you should feel the benefits within two to three days.
We offer estrogen and testosterone pellets for women, and testosterone pellets for men. Many men find it much easier to have testosterone pellets versus injections. In fact, one study showed that 95% of men on pellet therapy were highly satisfied compared to 75% who were using injections. Women who use pellets also love the convenience and the way they make them feel.

Our Whole-Body Approach
Many clinics offer Pellet Therapy these days. Yet, while hormone pellets are gaining in popularity, they’ve actually been used for almost 70 years. Of course, since that time, both the medications and the administration methods have evolved considerably to meet the needs of patients. Our clinic is all about whole-body wellness and keeping you healthy on all fronts. Our lab panels are comprehensive and will test many other health markers besides hormones. The reason for this is we want you to feel good and live a healthy life. If all things aren’t considered, and only the sex hormones are being tested, you still may not feel better, and you might have other underlying issues that you are not aware of.
Our customized approach includes both balancing your hormones and keeping you healthy. We focus on you as an individual, with unique health concerns. Through this functional medicine approach, we can discover the underlying causes of hormonal issues and chronic illness. We use a three-step approach of hormones, wellness, and nutrition to ensure you achieve the highest possible quality of life.
Functional medicine is far different than simply going into a hormone clinic and receiving pellets. We spend quality time with you, and this is crucial. You are unique, and we treat you that way—no cookie-cutter diagnoses or treatments. Therefore, Pellet Therapy is simply one part of an overall health and wellness plan. Your personalized plan may include not just hormone balance, but also nutrition and supplement support, gut health testing and treatment, and weight management.

Insurance Coverage
In order to delve more deeply and locate underlying causes of conditions and to provide optimal treatment, we find that we need much more time with our patients and more treatment options than insurance companies are willing to work with. Thus we are out of network for insurance.
However, if you have a PPO type of insurance plan, it is possible that your insurance will reimburse you for some or all of your office visit costs. Minimally, the costs should be able to go toward your deductible. You will pay for the appointments at the time of service and we can provide you with the necessary papers to file for reimbursement with your insurance provider. If you are on an HMO plan, most likely your insurance will not cover any of the costs of your office visits, but will likely cover all or a majority of your lab work.
Regarding the comprehensive lab work that will be required, many insurance plans will cover your labs. However, we do recommend that you check with your insurance company to make sure as some plans have changed how they pay for lab work and may require you to meet your deductible before your insurance pays anything for labs. This could mean a significant increase in your cost of lab work. In order to better serve our patients, we can offer you a significant discount through Quest Diagnostics or LabCorp for self-pay. We are also able to help you arrange to have a blood draw done at your own home for a nominal fee.
