What is Functional Medicine?
Functional medicine is a root-cause approach to healthcare. Rather than treating symptoms in isolation, it asks why those symptoms are occurring and works to identify and address the underlying dysfunction driving them.
This is a meaningful departure from conventional medicine, which excels at treating acute illness, injury, and life-threatening conditions but often falls short for patients dealing with chronic, complex, or unresolved health concerns.
For the many patients in Dallas and the Las Colinas area who have been told their labs are “normal” while continuing to feel unwell, functional medicine offers a different path.
Conventional Medicine vs. Functional Medicine
Conventional medicine is essential and life-saving in many situations. But its model—high patient volume, symptom-focused care, and standardized treatment protocols—is not always well suited to identifying the root causes of chronic disease and dysfunction.
Functional medicine takes a different approach:
More Time with Each Patient
Our providers see 4 to 6 patients per day. This allows for a thorough review of your health history, current symptoms, lifestyle, and lab results—an in-depth evaluation that is simply not possible in a conventional clinical setting.
Advanced, Comprehensive Testing
Where a conventional provider might run a single TSH test to evaluate thyroid function, a functional medicine evaluation includes six or more thyroid markers—TSH, Free T3, Free T4, Reverse T3, and thyroid antibodies—to identify dysfunction that standard testing routinely misses. The same depth of evaluation applies to hormones, metabolic health, gut function, and nutrient status.
Root-Cause Diagnosis
Symptoms are not the diagnosis; they are signals pointing to an underlying imbalance. A functional medicine approach maps those signals back to their source, whether that is hormonal imbalance, metabolic dysfunction, gut disruption, inflammation, nutritional deficiency, or a combination of factors.
Individualized Treatment
No two patients are the same. Treatment plans at Forum Health Las Colinas are built around your specific lab results, symptoms, and health goals — not a standardized protocol.
Prevention and Long-Term Health
Functional medicine is both proactive and restorative. Identifying metabolic risk factors, hormonal imbalances, and nutritional deficiencies before they progress to disease is a core part of the approach.
Who Functional Medicine is For
Functional medicine may be the right fit for patients who:
- Have been told their labs are normal, but continue to feel unwell
- Are dealing with fatigue, brain fog, weight gain, or hormonal symptoms without a clear diagnosis
- Have a chronic condition that has not responded adequately to conventional treatment
- Are managing multiple health concerns and want a provider who looks at the full picture
- Want a prevention-focused approach to their long-term health
Our patients include both women and men across all life stages, from those navigating hormonal transitions to those managing autoimmune conditions, metabolic dysfunction, thyroid disease, and complex chronic illnesses.

Our Core Services
Forum Health Las Colinas offers a comprehensive range of functional medicine services for patients throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Hormone Optimization
We provide comprehensive hormone testing and bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) for both women and men. This includes sex hormones, thyroid function, adrenal function, and metabolic markers, evaluated together as an interconnected system rather than in isolation.
Hormone optimization can address fatigue, low libido, weight gain, mood changes, brain fog, sleep disruption, and a wide range of symptoms linked to hormonal imbalance.
Thyroid Diagnosis and Treatment
Thyroid dysfunction is one of the most commonly underdiagnosed conditions in conventional medicine. Our comprehensive thyroid panel—including TSH, Free T3, Free T4, Reverse T3, and antibodies—identifies dysfunction that standard testing routinely misses.
We treat hypothyroidism, Hashimoto’s disease, and thyroid-related hair loss with individualized, evidence-based protocols.
Gut Health Optimization
Gut function underlies immune health, hormone regulation, mental health, and metabolic function. We use comprehensive stool analysis, gastrointestinal testing, and food sensitivity testing to evaluate microbiome health and identify the root causes of digestive dysfunction, inflammation, and related systemic symptoms.
Metabolic Health and Weight Management
We evaluate insulin resistance, blood sugar regulation, inflammation, cardiovascular risk markers, and metabolic function as part of a comprehensive approach to weight and metabolic health, which may include medically supervised weight-loss programs when appropriate.
Nutritional Testing and Supplementation
Deficiencies in key vitamins and minerals—including vitamin D, B12, magnesium, and others—are common and frequently overlooked. We test for nutritional deficiencies and use pharmaceutical-grade nutraceuticals as part of targeted treatment protocols.
Performance Health and Longevity
For patients who want to go beyond symptom relief and actively optimize their body’s function, our Performance Health program offers advanced evaluations, including VO2Max testing, InBody body composition analysis, and personalized longevity strategies.
What Hormone Optimization Can Address
Hormonal balance is a specialty of Forum Health Las Colinas. Properly balanced hormones—including sex hormones, thyroid, and adrenal hormones—have a broad impact on how patients feel and function.
Hormone optimization may help improve:
- Energy and stamina
- Memory and cognitive function
- Libido and sexual health
- Body composition, including abdominal fat and muscle mass
- Mood, anxiety, and depression
- Sleep quality
- Skin, hair, and bone health
- Cholesterol and cardiovascular risk markers
- Digestive function
- Joint and muscle pain
Our providers prescribe bioidentical hormones produced to precise standards in qualified compounding pharmacies, dosed and adjusted based on your labs and your response to treatment.
