Hormone Optimization for Women and Men
Hormones are chemical messengers that influence nearly every physiological process in the body—metabolism, energy, mood, sleep, cognitive function, sexual health, and more. They also work together as an interconnected system: when one hormone is disrupted, others are often affected as well.
Both women and men experience hormonal shifts throughout their lives. These changes can be gradual or sudden, and they are not limited to the obvious milestones of perimenopause, menopause, and andropause. Diet, chronic stress, illness, medication, lifestyle, and environmental factors can all disrupt hormone balance at any age.
At Forum Health Las Colinas, hormone optimization means identifying the specific imbalances affecting your health through comprehensive testing and correcting them with a personalized, medically supervised program. We prescribe only bioidentical hormones produced to exacting standards in qualified compounding pharmacies.
What is Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT)?
Bioidentical hormones are plant-derived compounds that are structurally identical to the hormones naturally produced by the human body. Unlike synthetic hormones, which have a different chemical structure, bioidentical hormones are designed to interact with the body’s hormone receptors in the same way as its own hormones.
BHRT uses these bioidentical compounds to restore hormone levels that have declined or become imbalanced, supporting the body’s return to optimal function. Because dosing is based on individual lab results and symptoms, rather than standardized protocols, the approach is inherently personalized.
Average life expectancy has increased significantly, but hormone production still declines with age. Hormone optimization addresses the gap between how long people live and how well they function during those years.
Signs You May Benefit from Hormone Optimization
Hormonal imbalances rarely develop suddenly. They are typically the result of cumulative physiological and lifestyle factors that gradually compromise the endocrine system. Common signs include:
Persistent fatigue or low energy
- Weight gain or difficulty losing weight, particularly around the abdomen
- Loss of muscle mass
- Low libido or sexual health concerns
- Sleep disruption or insomnia
- Brain fog, poor concentration, or memory lapses
- Mood changes, anxiety, or depression
- Irritability
- Hot flashes or night sweats
- Hair loss or thinning
- Skin changes—thinning, wrinkling, or loss of elasticity
- Headaches or migraines
- Muscle and joint pain
- Irregular periods or fertility concerns
- Erectile dysfunction
- Insulin resistance or abnormal cholesterol
- Decreased ability to handle stress

What Hormone Optimization Can Address
Properly balanced hormones have a broad impact on how patients feel and function day to day. Hormone optimization may support improvements in:
Energy & Fatigue
Hormone imbalance—including thyroid, adrenal, and sex hormone dysfunction—is one of the most common and overlooked contributors to chronic fatigue. Restoring balance frequently produces significant improvements in sustained energy levels.
Body Composition and Weight
Multiple hormones influence body composition, including how the body stores fat and builds muscle. Hormone optimization, combined with a healthy diet and appropriate exercise, can support healthy weight management and reduce abdominal fat accumulation.
Cognitive Function
Brain fog, poor concentration, and memory lapses are frequently linked to hormonal imbalance. Optimal hormone levels support mental clarity, focus, and cognitive performance, and can make a meaningful difference for patients who have struggled with these symptoms for years.
Libido and Sexual Health
A decline in libido is one of the most common symptoms of hormonal imbalance in both women and men. Hormone optimization, including testosterone and estrogen balance, often produces a meaningful improvement in sexual health and function.
Sleep
Hormonal disruption is a leading cause of sleep difficulty in adults over 40. Progesterone, estrogen, testosterone, and cortisol all influence sleep quality. Restoring balance can significantly improve the ability to fall asleep, stay asleep, and achieve restorative rest.
Mood and Emotional Well-being
Anxiety, depression, and irritability are frequently tied to hormonal imbalances, not just psychological factors. Addressing the underlying hormonal cause can produce meaningful improvements in emotional stability and resilience.
Skin, Hair, and Bone Health
Estrogen, testosterone, and thyroid hormones all play a role in skin integrity, hair growth, and bone density. Hormone optimization can help slow age-related changes in these areas and, in some cases, reverse them.
“I struggled for months with symptoms of menopause (hot flashes, brain fog, weird pangs in my gut, stubborn weight gain, feeling sick all the time, difficulty getting out of bed, low energy) and I was completely fed up with traditional medicine. Nothing I was doing was helping me. So, I reached out to Forum Health Las Colinas as a last-ditch effort to get my symptoms under control. Without a doubt, it was the smartest decision I made!
“My provider dove deep into my blood panel to uncover the deficiencies I had and then presented me with a plan to fix them. AND IT WORKED! She helped me balance my hormones, create a list of high-grade supplements tailored to my specific needs, and guided me on nutrition and exercise. I followed the plan and within 3 months my A1C is down from 5.7 to 5.1! In fact, all my numbers that were too high in my original blood panel are now back in a normal range.
“I feel fantastic…my energy is back, my brain is thinking clearly, and the weight is starting to come off! Thank you! I am so grateful for your knowledge and expertise. If you’re at wits’ end with menopause symptoms, do yourself a favor and call Form Health Las Colinas!” – Jennifer

Comprehensive Testing and Treatment
The foundation of effective hormone optimization is accurate, comprehensive testing. We do not rely on limited panels or standard reference ranges alone; we evaluate a full picture of hormonal and metabolic health and consider your symptoms alongside your lab results.

- Comprehensive laboratory testing covering sex hormones, thyroid, adrenal function, metabolic markers, and nutritional status
- In-depth provider consultation and health assessment
- Personalized treatment plan based on your individual lab results and symptoms
- Bioidentical hormones prescribed and compounded to your specific needs
- Nutritional guidance and targeted supplementation
- Regular follow-up labs and dose adjustments over time
Hormone optimization is an ongoing, monitored program, not a one-time prescription. Follow-up and fine-tuning are built into the process.
